This rigorous and all encapsulating audit consists of:
Manual attack testing using tools (crowbars, screwdrivers, chisels, etc)
Mechanical loading tests on locks and hinges – up to 4500 Newtons (approx. 450 kg force) applied horizontally
Cylinder security assessment
Glazing security resistance tests

What is BSI Enhanced Testing?
“BSI Enhanced Testing is a rigorous and in-depth assessment process conducted by the British Standards Institution (BSI) that go beyond minimum legal or standard requirements to ensure superior product quality, safety, security, and performance.’
As outlined by BSI:
Key aspects of BSI enhanced testing include:
- Going Above Minimums: Unlike mandatory certifications like CE marking, which ensure basic legal compliance, BSI enhanced testing assesses products against more stringent criteria and performance benchmarks.
- Ongoing Monitoring: Certification involves initial rigorous testing followed by ongoing sample testing and annual assessments of factory production controls to ensure consistent quality and prevent standards from slipping over time.
- Specific Security Levels: In the context of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, BSI offers an “Enhanced Level IoT Kitemark,” which demonstrates a product has a higher level of security controls than the market standard, suitable for higher-risk applications. This involves BSI’s most in-depth and exacting analysis.
- Enhanced Security for Fenestration: For windows and doors, enhanced security testing often involves meeting the requirements of the PAS 24 specification, which tests resistance to attack from opportunistic burglars.
- Independent Verification: The testing is conducted by expert, independent test engineers in BSI labs, providing impartial third-party evidence of a product’s claims.
