Unity Doors offers peace of mind with Secure by Design certification

We’re pleased to announce that Unity Doors has recently renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD) – the official police security initiative.

SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime. Unity Doors’ Firesafe Composite Residential Doorsets and Regency SMC Composite Residential Doorsets have both been certified by Secured by Design (SBD).

Serving the industry to over 20 years, Unity Doors has experience in design, manufacture and installation of high performing British made doors, including; sheet moulding compound (SMC), thermoplastic composite, engineered solid timber core composites & high quality timber doors. They have sold over two million composite doors to trade, domestic and business customers throughout the UK.

SBD Development Officer Doug Skins said: “I am pleased that Unity Doors has renewed their membership with SBD as they have been valued members since 2012 with their Firesafe Composite Residential Doorsets and Regency SMC Composite Residential Doorsets having achieved Police Preferred Specification”.

As a company Unity Group is focused on delivering excellence and making a real difference to peoples’ lives. By investing in Secured By Design certification our customers can depend on the highest quality doorsets which have been designed to deter crime and ultimately keep people safe. The desire to make a difference, to protect and improve, are all things which are fundamental to our ethos, so we’re extremely proud once again to renew our membership and thank everyone for their support.

BD is the official police security initiative that is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim to reduce crime and help people live more safely.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings using products, such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

In addition, SBD work closely with builders, developers, local authorities and registered housing associations to incorporate the police crime prevention standards into developments from initial concept and design, through to construction and completion. Police forces throughout the UK have specially trained Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) who offer police designing out crime and SBD advice free of charge.

‘Over one million homes have been built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.’

SBD has many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers, and works closely with standards and certification bodies.
SBD developed a product-based accreditation scheme over 20 years’ ago – the Police Preferred Specification, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime. SBD works with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated, to keep pace with emerging crime trends.

There are currently hundreds of companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products, across over 30 different crime categories, which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

What is Secured by Design?

Secured by Design is the UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of designing out crime.

Secured by Design (SBD) is primarily an initiative to encourage the building industry to adopt crime prevention measures to assist in reducing the opportunity for crime and the fear of crime, creating a safer and more secure environment. Secured by Design supports one of the Government’s key planning objectives – the creation of secure, quality places where people wish to live and work.

Licensed Products – Secured by Design licensed company status is awarded to those companies producing security products, including doors and windows, which pass standards and tests nominated by the police service as “Police Preferred Specification”.

JCK Joinery customers can be assured of continuity of quality and performance through independent testing and monitoring of our products.

We have a development program which continues to extend the number of designs and products available and introduce new hardware enabling us to respond to individual customer, or job, requirements.

Considerable experience has been gained from the research and testing we have already undertaken. This enables us to continue to improve our products and stay at the forefront of security door manufacture.

From our early development work on enhanced security doors in 1999, our aim has been to retain flexibility in design utilising traditional timber construction coupled with the latest in security hardware and all at an affordable price.

Furthermore, all timber products can be obtained from sustainable sources with Chain of Custody.
