JCK Joinery Welcomes you to De Beauvoir Block
We’re really pleased to share our very first case study for JCK Joinery. You may have seen little teases here and there of this project, of which, we are quite rightly extremely proud too. It has been some time in the making, however, we’re thrilled with the outcome and hope it will serve our team well in presenting our expertise and the level of JCK’s craftsmanship. As a business with a heritage spanning 150 years it goes without saying that our experience speaks for itself. On this occasion, we feel our work does exactly that.
ABOUT DE BEAUVOIR BLOCK
At the bustling heart of East London’s creative industry, De Beauvoir Block offers like-minded spirits the space to meet, share and grow.
Designed predominantly for the arts and creative industries, one of the underlying pre-requisites for its development was the need for open spaces which maximise light and layout, whilst paying homage to its industrial heritage.
A SEAMLESS COLLABORATION
A seamless and successful collaboration between our client Sullivan Brothers Construction, and Henley Halebrown Architects for De Beauvoir Block at Benyon Estate, this impressive renovation project is an excellent showcase for JCK Joinery’s ‘one of a kind’ expertise. The enormous bespoke timber doors you see in this case study and in the various images you will see online, have been crafted by our joinery team. In some instances it took 6 men to lift them from one bench to the next!

WITH A PROJECT OF SUCH SCALE & SIGNIFICANCE CLEARLY THERE WERE CHALLENGES
‘One of the key problems was that we had to actually relocate some of our joinery equipment given the sheer size, and to accommodate the framing. The framing sections were 90mmX200mm which meant individual timbers weighed close to 100kg. We had to manufacture special trolleys to move the completed frames and doors around the joinery shop.’
